Fun Rainy Day Activities

While we love to encourage our kids to play outside to get some fresh air and sunshine, the weather doesn’t always agree with our plans. It doesn’t take a lot for kids to get cabin fever so it’s always good to be prepared with a fun stash of indoor activities for those rainy days. Below is a list of some of the most fun and easy to set up activities you can do with your kids when you’re all stuck inside.

1. Board Games

The oldest idea in the book! Get your competitive juices flowing and pull out some family classics like Trouble, Snap, Monopoly, Uno, Jenga, and Cluedo.

2. Baking

Get creative in the kitchen and whip up some cookies or cupcakes. What’s fun about this activity is that the kids can then spend some time decorating them with icing and sprinkles once they’re done baking. Yum!

3. Jigsaw Puzzles

What’s great about a Jigsaw puzzle is that it’s an activity you can come back to every time the family is at home. You can choose the size and complexity based on your child’s age and leave it on the table underneath a cover until you’re ready to come back to it.

4. Scavenger Hunt

This one requires a bit of preparation but is very rewarding. Put together a series of clues that lead to a big prize at the end. Watching your kids figure out the clues and finding the treasure at the end can be very entertaining.

5. Science Experiment

There are a ton of at-home science experiments that require very little set-up and often with materials you can find around the house. One example is a tea bag rocket. Take the tea out of a tea bag, hollow it out, stand it up and carefully take a match to it. The bag is so light it rises along with the hot air and begins to fly.

6. Open Mic Night

It doesn’t matter if you have a karaoke machine or not. All that matters is you can belt it out to some of the best Disney classics. Let it go, Let it go!

7. Movie Night

It’s not unusual for a parent to be conscious about screen time. So instead of sticking them in front of the TV, make a family event out of it. Pick a favourite movie, dress up as your favourite character, decorate the room and make up some themed trivia questions. Harry Potter is always a fun choice!
