Halloween Art & Craft Ideas

If you enjoy celebrating Halloween, here are a few art and craft ideas for your child to create, with a bit of help for you as well

Trick or Treat: Smell My Feet!

You will need:  

  • Orange cardboard
  • White paint
  • Black marker
  • String to hang

Instructions:

  • Lay down protective plastic matting
  • Take some coloured cardboard and place it on the floor
  • Have your child sit down on the floor with shoes off
  • Paint their feet in white
  • Have them place their footprints on the cardboard
  • Allow to dry
  • Once dried, draw on eyes and features to resemble a ghost
  • Hang as a halloween decoration!

Intsy Wincey Spider Card

You will need: 

  • Coloured cardboard, folded in half as a greeting card
  • Googly eyes
  • Glue
  • Black marker
  • Silver pen
  • Black pen

Instructions:

  • Lay down protective plastic matting
  • Draw on the spider’s web in silver pen on the top left corner of the card
  • Place the cardboard on the table
  • Cover their hands in black paint
  • Have them place their handprints on the cardboard on at a time, with palms towards the middle of the cardboard
  • Allow to dry
  • Once dried, glue googly eyes and draw on a mouth witth silver pen
  • Give to a family member as a cute Halloween card

Paper Plate Witch

What you will need: 

  • Paper plate
  • Green paint
  • Purple, black, orange, white paper
  • Black sharpie
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Instructions:

  • Trace your child’s handprint on top of 2 pieces of orange paper folded so you only have to cut once
  • Paint the paper plate with green paint and set aside to dry.
  • From the black paper, cut out a witch’s hat
  • With the purple paper, cut the hat ribbon
  • Cut out the eyes from the white paper and use sharpie to make the pupils
  • Once the green paint is dry, glue on the “handprint “hair,” the hat  and the eyes.
  • Draw on a witches face and you’re done!

Frankenhand’s Monster

You will need: 

  • White craft paper
  • Green paint
  • Black marker
  • String to hang

Instructions: 

  • Lay down protective plastic matting
  • Take some coloured cardboard and place it on the table
  • Paint their palms in green, and fingers in black
  • Have them place their handprint on the cardboard
  • Allow to dry
  • Once dried, draw on eyes, features, and scar to resemble Frankenstein’s Monster
  • Use as a halloween decoration!

Puffy Ghost

You will need: 

  • White paper
  • Scissors
  • Wood glue
  • Bowl for glue
  • Cotton balls
  • Black paper
  • String to hang

Instructions: 

  • Lay down protective plastic matting
  • Cut out eyes and a mouth in the black paper and place to the side for later
  • Draw a “ghost” shape onto the paper and cut out.
  • Place glue into a small bowl which the cotton can be dunked in
  • Gently dunk one side of the cotton ball into the glue and stick onto the paper
  • Repeat until the ghost is covered and fluffy
  • Allow to dry
  • Once dried, glue on eyes and mouth onto the ghost
  • Make a small hole in the top of the ghost
  • Hang as a halloween decoration!

Paper Plate Owl

What you will need: 

  • Two Paper plates
  • Brown paint
  • Yellow, orange, white paper
  • Black sharpie
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Stapler
  • String

Instructions:

  • Cut one of the paper plates in half, to use as wings
  • Paint the paper plates with brown paint and set aside to dry.
  • From the orange paper, cut a small, narrow triangle for the beak
  • From the black paper, cut out pupils for the owls eyes
  • With the white paper, cut out mid-sized circles for the middle of the eyes
  • With the yellow paper, cut large circles for the outer eyes
  • With the yellow circles on the bottom of the pile. glue the white circles on top of yellow, and then the black on top of the white, repeat for second eye
  • Once the brown paint is dry, glue on the eyes and the beak
  • Place the wings on a slight angle, at the back of the owl’s head, staple into place
  • Make a small hole at the top for the string to thread through
  • Thread string and hang as decoration
