“I’m BORED” Those two dreaded words. Keeping your children occupied at home can be a difficult task. Finding inspiration to keep your children engaged while helping them learn important skills can be one of the most satisfying aspects of being a parent when done well. There are always creative things we can do at home, you just need to put some thought and imagination into it. - Indoor Picnic
Set out a picnic blanket and basket of food and eat your dinner as though you were having a picnic. Just having variety in your family life brings you closer together as a family unit. - Scavenger Hunt
Prepare a list of items for your kids to find around the house. Be creative, you can add clues, set a time limit and set a small prize for the winner. - International Dinner Night
Let your child pick a country they would like to learn more about. Find cuisine that is unique to that country and prepare it with your child. If you would like to go that extra step, you can even find clothing that is worn in the country and wear it to dinner. Each family member could bring one fact about the country to share during dinner, making it a fun night of creative learning! - Plants Seedlings
Planting seedlings will require a small amount of research as you will need to know the best time to plant and the time it will take to grow. The process of watching them grow can be rewarding and educational for both you and your child! - Themed Movie Night
Pick a sequel or genre of movie and plan a night of back-to-back viewing! Prepare lots of snacks and if you want to go that extra step, match them to your movie theme! You can set out props, make a fort and even prepare costumes. My personal favourite? Harry Potter! - Homemade Greeting Cards
Making homemade greeting cards can be a unique and personal way for your child to do something thoughtful for friends and family. You can purchase supplies from any craft or department store and have a day where you get together and make cards for any occasion! - Do A Puzzle
Puzzles can be a great activity since it’s something you can leave and come back to as much as you want. It can teach your child patience and the best part is the seeing the look of satisfaction on their face when the finished product is put up on display. - Play Games
Games are a great way to have fun at home. Some of the best family games include Trouble, Uno, Pictionary and Cluedo. Don’t limit yourself to board and card games though. Some other classics that will provide you with hours of entertainment throughout the evenings are Eye Spy and Charades. And if all else fails, make your own game as a family! - Film A Cooking Show
With your child, pick out a recipe you would like to try. Prepare the recipe with your child and pretend you are hosting your own cooking show. Filming it will be something fun you can keep and look back on for a bit of a giggle. Make sure to give as many family members a role as possible! - Karaoke Night
Karaoke is a great way for the family to spend time together. Multiple consoles such as PlayStation and Wii have several options to choose from. You could even set a theme! My personal favourite? Disney! You could even dress up as your favourite Disney character.
